Come and spend a winter weekend unwinding in an authentic and peaceful hideaway. The enchanting Wilderness Center is located right by the edge of Northern Europe’s most extensive highlands an hour away from Egilsstadir airport. On this tour we will be ensured to shake the city dust off our shoes as we dive into our daily Yoga and mindfulness sessions with our certified guide, quiet the mind hiking into the glacier valley, enjoy dinner and drinks spiced with local goods, relax in the authentic spa and visit an open-roof stargazing hut on property. Appreciate the spirit of the past through the nostalgic farmhouse accommodation spiced with modern day comforts. Follow the guide through our exhibition where we learn about the history of the wilderness and stories of the people who used to live here by the edge of civilization. The astonishing surroundings will make you feel connected with nature on your mindful and unique retreat. Our Yoga practices and morning stretch sessions are also suitable for beginners.

DAY 1 – Relaxing into the atmosphere

Pickup starts 3:35PM at Egilsstadir airport according to afternoon flight arrival from Reykjavik. Please note that you might have to wait up to 30minutes if you have selected another pickup point in Egilsstaðir.
We start directly heading to Fljótsdahlshreppur and enjoy the beautiful scenery while we drive by the mystical lake Lagarfljót and magnificent Hengifoss waterfall. After about a 50 minute drive we will reach our main destination, Wilderness Center. Meet your hosts, get settled in and have a warm beverage.
Soon after arrival your guide will host a Welcome Yoga session to help us relax and land into our new environment. The session will consist of some light stretching and breath work, and a bit of yoga nidra.
Around 7PM we can enjoy a homemade dinner that the chef of the center has prepared for us. The dinner will take place in our exhibition space where after dinner you can take an auidioguided tour through the history of the Wilderness and learn about the heritage of the farm. Usually the course of the day is Icelandic lamb, fish or veggie option with potatoes, salad and a selection of small side dishes on the table. Please make sure you will provide us with a note of possible dietary restrictions.
After dinner we will take a relaxing short walk to the stargazing hut on property. Remember to put on something warm as we will slide open the roof of the hut and gaze onto the night sky. Our guide can tell you a thing or two about the star constellations in the Nordic hemisphere as you take a look through a telescope. We will keep our fingers crossed for a clear night sky and perhaps for some dancing northern lights as well…

DAY 2 – Nourishing the body and mind

Second day of our journey starts with a breakfast at 8 AM
After this, we are going for a total of 6 km hike deeper into the valley until we reach the abandoned farm ‘’Kleif’’. Make it a mindful hike with some meditation suggestions by your hiking guide, or make it a silent hike if you prefer more ”me time.” At Kleif the adventurous ones can hop on a cable cart and pull themselves across the Jokulsá river and back.
As we return from our trek the chef has prepared the lunch table. We are enjoying nourishing warm soup with homemade bread.
After our lunch and a small break we will get together for another Yoga session where we will be practicing some sun salutations. We combine the session with the open sauna and outdoor hot pool to truly warm up the body and release any last bit of leftover tension.
Around 6 PM we invite you to join us for dinner preperation. We will be accompanied with a chef from a local drink business Könglar who will enlighten you about their use of local herbs and spices. We will be cooking a family dinner together using their provided ingredients together with the centers supplies. Indulge the local flavors and pair it with a refreshing soda from Könglar or a pint from the local brewery.

DAY 3 – Morning stretch and herbal tea

After 8AM breakfast our guide will host a session of Morning stretch and mindfulness. Help wake up the body and quiet the mind with some gentle yoga flow.
After our last yoga session you can take a final visit to the spa or spend some time saying goodbye to the farm.
Around 12PM we spend a bit of time creating a spice mixture from local herbs and if the weather allows, we will sit by the fireplace outside boiling our farewell tea and enjoy it with some snacks.
At 2 PM it is time to say goodbye to our hosts and check out from the Wilderness Center. We will drop you off at your selected drop off point in Egilsstaðir and reach the afternoon flight to Reykjavik that departures at 4:05 PM.
